WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives Michael Rulli (OH-06), Dave Joyce (OH-14), and Mike Turner (OH-10) and Senators Bernie Moreno (R-OH) and Jon Husted (R-OH) sent a letter to Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, requesting he designate $25 million in existing funds to support the fire station construction project at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS).

The 910th Airlift Wing at YARS, tasked with tactical airlift and the DoD’s only aerial spray mission, is adopting the C-130J airframe, driving strong support for a new fire station to ensure operational readiness.

The Pentagon and Congress have backed the YARS fire station project, part of the FY25 Air Force Reserve Budget, highlighting its national defense value and reliance on existing funds. In FY24, YARS was allocated $2.5 million for the fire station’s planning and design, and it is now prepared to begin construction to ensure Northeast Ohio airmen and reservists are fully equipped for their vital mission duties. The project was authorized with bipartisan support in the FY25 National Defense Authorization Act and included $25 million in both House and Senate FY25 appropriations bills.

Given the clear recognition of the importance of this project at the Pentagon and in Congress, it is our hope that $25 million will be designated for construction of the YARS fire station through the funds provided by the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025, signed into law by President Trump on March 15, 2025,” said lawmakers. They expressed gratitude for Secretary Hegseth’s service and offered to assist in advancing this project.
