WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, as King Charles III visits the United States, Congressman Mike Rulli (OH-6) introduced a resolution expressing support for the citizens of the United Kingdom as they continue to face assaults on their rights to free speech and freedom of expression.

This resolution condemns the ongoing assault on freedom of speech and expression by officials of the United Kingdom, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Other officials of the United Kingdom have sought to extradite Elon Musk and other Americans for exercising their rights to free speech and expression.

“During this 250th year of American independence from the United Kingdom, we renew our call to the British government to respect the fundamental freedoms of our cousins across the ocean,” said Congressman Rulli. “Our Founding Fathers made clear that the right to speak freely and to criticize one’s government without fear of punishment is a cornerstone of any free society. Yet today, those principles are being chipped away. Prime Minister Starmer’s continued erosion of these values are spiraling the United Kingdom toward a dystopian future.”

Rulli continued, “It is essential that we stand with nations that uphold and defend these shared principles and condemn those that do not. We must never forget that our country was founded on the courage to challenge oppression and the unwavering belief in individual liberty.”

This resolution also reaffirms that the Constitution reigns supreme over any comments or actions by officials of the United Kingdom and urges the Trump Administration to disavow any laws or orders of the United Kingdom that infringe upon freedom of speech or expression.
