WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Mike Rulli (OH-06) introduced H.Res.574, a resolution designating July 13th as “Faith and Defiance Day” to honor both President Donald J. Trump’s unshakable courage in the face of life-threatening hatred and the innocent victims of the July 13th, 2024, assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“The whole world was watching on July 13th, 2024, when President Trump was shot and fell to the ground. We were all holding our breath, unsure of what had happened. In that moment, there wasn’t a person on earth prepared for what came next,” said Congressman Rulli. “A bullet struck our President, and he stood up, fist raised, telling us all to ‘fight, fight, fight!’ That is the American spirit – faithful, defiant, and unstoppable. You see one or two events in your life that inspire you to be more than you are, that strike you to your core. This was one of them. God saved the President that day, and that’s something worth recognizing for the rest of time.”
The resolution urges the House of Representatives to:
- Designate a national “Faith and Defiance Day” so every generation remembers the day America refused to be cowed by political violence.
- Honor Corey D. Comperatore, the American patriot who laid down his life shielding his family from the assassin’s hail of gunfire.
- Salute the grit and courage of James Copenhaver and David Dutch, who were wounded yet unnerved.
- Praise the fearless actions of Secret Service agents, law enforcement, first responders, and patriotic citizens who sprang into action to save lives.
- Condemn political violence in every form, no matter who it targets or who commits it.
- Acknowledge the enormous impact President Donald J. Trump’s leadership has had on this nation, as he continues to fight for America with faith and defiance, no matter the cost.
“Corey Comperatore’s name should ring out as a reminder of what true bravery looks like,” Rulli continued. “The cowards who think they can silence this nation through violence will always fail. President Trump showed us that our faith in God and our defiance of evil are stronger than any attack. As we come upon the one-year anniversary of this pivotal moment in American history, I believe it is more than appropriate to honor this day by highlighting two of America’s most defining characteristics: faith in God and defiance against evil in all its forms.”
